The following is just a curious, off-the-top-of-my-head question. It's not relevant to the series, but nevertheless fun to think about (or at least I think so).
Lately, I've been trying to look at Aeon from different points of view and imagining her in various situations. One, off the top of my head, involved a casino.
Yes, I know gambling in Eden hasn't really been established, but for the sake of argument, let's say Aeon were to walk into a casino. She enters into a neon lit room, tobacco lingers on the air, and right and left are numerous slot machines.
Here's my little question: If Aeon existed in the modern world (a very chilling thought), how do you think she would she react to these machines? Machines, mind you, that are based solely on chance with no predictability.
We all know Aeon hates randomness, and slot machines are as random as you can get. Unlike table games, like poker and blackjack, you cannot predict an outcome with slots. You can't count the cards (which is cheating), you can't read your opponent for tells, and when it comes down to it, slot machines are not engineered to be in the player's favor. Back in the old days, when slots were gear-operated, every symbol (or stop) had an equal chance for each spin. But with them now computerized, each stop can be programmed to have different odds. One symbol can have five stops while another can have just one stop. This would explain why hitting the Jackpot is so difficult. Frustrating, but no less addictive (and that's the point of it all).
But why am I discussing all this, you may ask? Well, when I thought about Aeon, I began to wonder what her odds would be against games of chance. She may the omniscient Dark Queen of Time, but how comfortable must it be for her to have all those odds and outcomes floating in her head like a thousand little grenades? In the case of slot machines, there is no certainty whatsoever. It's just a roll of the dies, and these dies have over a million possible combinations.
Imagine if Aeon went up to one such machine and spun the reels. She would be curious at first, using her power to predict what happens next when. . . it lands on something else entirely. She grits her teeth in frustration, but again she guesses wrong. Whimpering, she tries again, and again, and again, each time her headache getting worse and worse until . . . low and behold, the Dark Queen of Time is at last defeated! ...At least until she decides to stop playing and murder everyone in the casino for housing these infernal contraptions. (Oops! That's right. Aeon can't actually kill anyone, can she?)
What do you think Aeon's experiences would be when it comes to chance? Games of cards. Pop quizzes. Questions with no answers. Again, this discussion is just for fun, but who knows? Maybe we'll learn something amongst the guesswork.
